Fuel prices in Australia have recently hit new highs. For this reason, it’s helpful to reduce fuel costs as much as possible. By following a few simple tips you can reduce your fuel bills by a few dollars with every full tank. That might not sound like much, but over time the savings really add up.

Price of Petrol in Western Australia

At the time of writing this article, city fuel prices (Petrol and Diesel) are around $1.50 per litre. Rural and country areas often charge higher prices than city areas.

It’s also worth noting that there is a weekly cycle of high and low petrol prices in Australia. In Western Australia, Wednesdays tends to be the lowest-priced days, with petrol outlets charging premium prices on weekends. Of course, this cycle can change, so be sure to ask around – or check with us when you book your hire vehicle.

Tips for Saving Money at the Bowser

  1. Refuel in City Areas. When you travel through city areas, always take advantage of the cheaper city rates. If you wait until you hit quieter country towns, you’ll find petrol prices can be significantly higher.
  2. Pick Your Days. As mentioned above, certain days are cheaper than others depending on the weekly price cycle. By choosing the cheapest day to fill your tank, you can make good savings.
  3. Use Fuel Vouchers. Large Grocery stores in Australia offer a discount voucher to customers who spend over a certain amount in store. Whenever you buy groceries, always accept the voucher and be sure to use it!
  4. Drive Economically. When you pick up your hire vehicle, be sure to check with us about the most economical driving speed. We recommend around 80-90km/hr for most vehicles. This, combined with gentle acceleration, proper tyre pressure and limiting air-conditioner usuage results is best fuel consumption.

Little Steps for Big Savings

When you’re camping, every dollar saved counts. If you save $10 on petrol, that’s $10 you can spend on a souvenir, food or a tourist experience. Take the small steps mentioned above and you’ll be rewarded with lower fuel costs on your camper hire trip.
